Participation of Helga Waap in a Short TermScientific Mission (STSM) funded by COST COMBAR action 16230 at the Institute of Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine of the University of Berlin, Germany. STSM title: Survey of helminths and assessment of anthelmintic resistance in the Merino Branca sheep breed in Portugal.
The purpose of this STSM was to get on-hands training on coprological techniques for the diagnosis and quantification of gastrointestinal parasites, namely the use of the Mini-Flotac device, coproculture techniques and procedures for the purification of eggs for DNA extraction, as well as to get familiar with methods to assess anthelminthic resistance, including Pyrosequencing for the analysis of SNPs correlated with benzimidazol resistance, and in vitro tests, like the Egg Hatch Test and the Larval Migration Inhibition Test.
