FINAL SEMINARY
POLO DE DOIS PORTOS - INIAV
On April 7, the Final Seminary of the Project was held at the Polo de Dois Portos/EVN.
The opening session, marked by the intervention of the President of Directive Board of INIAV, was followed by the presentation of the project and its indicators of achievement, by Sara Canas and Sofia Catarino.
Thereafter, the main results attained in the ageing assay were presented:
- Influence of the ageing technology on the mineral composition of wine spirit | Sofia Catarino
- Chromatic characteristics and phenolic composition of the aged wine spirits | Sheila Alves and Sara Canas
- Hydrolysable tannins in the aged wine spirits: a new perspective based on the ageing technology and high-resolution mass spectrometry | Tiago Fernandes
- Volatile composition and sensory profile of the wine spirits | Ilda Caldeira
- Chemical characterisation of the wood | Ofélia Anjos and Fátima Peres
And the results of the storage in bottle assay:
- Influence of the storage in bottle on the chemical characteristics and antioxidant activities of the aged wine spirits | Sheila Alves
After the debate, moderated by Victor de Freitas and Sara Canas, an informal tasting of wine spirits from the project was held, guided by Ilda Caldeira with the collaboration of Ana Carvalho, at the distillery of Polo de Dois Portos/EVN.
At this time, a brochure on the project and its main results was launched.
About 60 participants attended the seminar, mostly from higher education institutions, and institutions, associations and companies of the wine sector.
SEMINARY AT INSTITUTO SUPERIOR DE AGRONOMIA
On December 6, a Seminary for dissemination of the Project was held – Seminary at Instituto Superior de Agronomia.
The programme, aimed at the academic community, comprised the presentation of the Project (Sofia Catarino), results of the research line “Wine spirit ageing with chestnut staves under different micro-oxygenation strategies” (Sara Canas, Sofia Catarino, Ilda Caldeira and Ofélia Anjos), website and indicators of achievement (Tiago Fernandes).
At the end, there was a tasting of aged wine spirits of the Project, guided by Ilda Caldeira and Sheila Alves, at the Experimental Winery of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia.
This dissemination action took place within the curricular unit Seminar of the Master in Viticulture and Enology Engineering, under the responsibility of Jorge Ricardo da Silva, who presented the program and moderated the discussion.
About 50 participants, mostly students of the 2nd year of the Master in Viticulture and Enology Engineering, International Master of Science in Viticulture and Enology (Vinifera) and Double Degree, attended the event.
OPEN DAY AT ADEGA COOPERATIVA DA LOURINHÃ
On December 14, the first disclosure action of the Project was held – Open Day at Adega Cooperativa da Lourinhã.
The programme comprised a presentation about “Research EVN/INIAV – Contribution to the development of Lourinhã Designation of Origin”, by Sara Canas, the presentation of the Project, by Sofia Catarino, a visit to the Adega Cooperativa da Lourinhã facilities, and a tasting of aged wine spirits guided by Ilda Caldeira.
At the end, there was a tasting of sweets from Lourinhã, many of which were made with the aged wine spirit from this region, whose producers joined this event - Doce Lourinhã of Sílvia Baptista; Pastelaria Lourinius of Pedro Ferreira; Peninsulares of Alberto Jordão Luis; Casa das Areias Brancas of Flávio Carvalho; Pêras e Companhia of Filomena Frande.
About 50 participants, from several institutions, associations and companies related to the wine production sector, attended the event.
