The problem to be investigated in REMIRUCULA project is the high susceptibility to downy mildew of wild rocket varieties currently cultivated, which is responsible for severe production losses that affects directly producers' income. The main goal of the project is to contribute to a greater sustainability of the rocket production resistant to downy mildew, assuring a healthier and safety food production and a proper environmental protection.
The project also promotes the scientific knowledge, monitoring and valorisation of plant genetic resources, with strong research and innovation components, namely the genomic and biochemical characterization of the interaction D. tenuifolia–Hyaloperonospora sp., the identification of resistant and partially resistant genotypes to downy mildew, and the improvement of the production technologies.
